About Ian
Ian Havlick, IFMGA Mountain Guide
Anyone I take into the mountains deserves an experience worth remembering. Never do I take for granted the time, energy, and sacrifice my guests make to be in the mountains together. Slashing fresh tracks in new-fallen snow, tying into the rope on a crisp fall morning at the base of a climb, sorting gear the night before a big day in nervous excitement, or cracking that hard-earned beer, sitting in the dirt or by a crackling fire in relieving exhaustion at the end of a long sweaty day.
I pride myself on the meticulous execution of custom trips that excite my guests. Whether a backyard objective that just catches your eye during your cup of coffee each morning or a far away bucket list place that you just have to go see. Let’s go check it out. Smell the smells, learn the culture, eat the local food, drink the local spirits, and immerse into a simpler routine.

Expert Service
Whatever your adventure, have confidence you are in the best hands. As a professional, fully certified international mountain guide, I have been examined and critiqued by professional peers and hold myself to the highest standard of safety and risk management. Intensive personal mountain travel and formal instruction and examination in three mountain disciplines (multi-pitch rock climbing, alpine and ice climbing, and of course skiing) have taught me many skills and tools that can be applied to places I have never been. We will explore and make decisions together. My job is to weigh the risk versus reward at any given time and balance the likelihood versus consequence of our objectives. Sometimes we may have to turn around. The beauty of the mountains is no matter the objective, the mountain will not be going anywhere and will just enrich the feeling of satisfaction the next time around.
IFMGA Mountain Guide
A benefit of full certification is if I cannot take on your project myself, there is a good chance I can refer you to one of my network of colleagues and guide services I trust, as they refer their friends to me.
Custom Rates
My rates depend on the objective, the time required to plan, travel and execute the trip, as well as the level of unavoidable objective hazards we may encounter. I strive to strike a balance between generating a living wage for my family, as well as surpassing your expectations, and delivering value for what a climb or ski trip can offer.
